Things to Know Before Buying a New HVAC System

February 25, 2016

Replacing your HVAC system can be overwhelming. At DelFera Heating and Cooling we provide free estimates with our highly qualified home comfort consultants. Here are some questions that we recommend asking before making your decision with any HVAC company.

Should I repair or replace?

Sometimes a major repair can be costly and depending on the age of your furnace, you should consider replacement. Our technicians can tell you what the problem is and what the best solution would be, whether it’s worth it to repair the system or if replacement of your system would be the smarter solution.

Should I replace all of my HVAC equipment at the same time?

Ideally, yes. Your outdoor unit and indoor unit work as a team to heat and cool your home properly. A mismatched system may not deliver the same energy efficiency or performance as well as a complete new system.

Is financing available?

When looking into buying a HVAC system from a company, make sure to find out if financing is available. DelFera works with several different lenders offering financing programs with approved credit.

What is a SEER rating?

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. SEER is a rating system developed by the U.S. Government to indicate the efficiency level of cooling equipment. All cooling systems today must have at least a 13 SEER rating. A heat pump system must have at least a 14 SEER rating.

What size system do I need?

An HVAC system cannot be too small or it will run continuously using more energy and it will still not deliver adequate heating or cooling in extreme weather. A system that is too large will increase your energy bills, and cause problems like humidity control.

DelFera will ensure your new system is the right fit for your home. Our comfort consultant will perform a detailed load calculation that will determine the capacity of the equipment needed for the correct distribution of air to each room in your home.

What is the warranty coverage like?

When you are looking into a new HVAC unit, you should be aware of the warranty and what it covers. With DelFera, there is a manufacturer warranty as well as an extended service agreement from DelFera. After that extended service agreement is expired we strongly recommend picking up one of our service maintenance agreements. Other companies may have similar warranties, just be sure to check the coverage of the warranty.

Are there any rebates available for a new system?

DelFera offers a wide variety of Energy Star Certified, ultra-high efficiency products excellent warranties and possible $$$ savings with Federal Tax Credits, Peco and Manufacturer Rebates.
