Tips For Preparing For Holiday Guests

December 22, 2015

The holidays are a time to get together with family and friends. Here are some tips to get your house in order before guests arrives. DelFera Heating and Cooling wishes you a happy holiday and safe holiday.

Determine the room situation beforehand: Before your guests arrive, decide who will get the guest room (if there is one) or which kids will be relocating to the couch or other areas. If you need air mattresses, see if you can borrow some or if they already have one before you purchase one. Get out all the extra bedding you have to ensure the guest has enough blankets and pillows during their stay.

Figure out your dining needs: Make sure you have enough tables and seating for everyone attending. To make it easier, you can have a kids table and an adult table if you need more space.

Plan your meals: If your guests are staying for more than a couple of days it may be a good idea to plan your meals out. Holidays are expensive enough as it is, ordering dinner out every day may not be the best option. Try preparing meals instead. You can plan ahead with your guest in case you want their input, but to make it easy on yourself you can make things early and freeze it so you can just heat it back up. You can also take advantage of your crock pot and having it cooking throughout the day and ready by dinner time. Make sure to know your guest’s food allergies a head of time to avoid any potential allergy disasters.

Clean your bathrooms: This can be something that is easily forgotten, but make sure you have plenty of clean towels, soaps, shampoo and conditioners, tooth brushes, tooth paste to accommodate your guests.

Plan some things to do: If they are not from the area and aren’t familiar show them some great tourist spots they can check out. Try to go to a sporting event or another fun activity they may not do every day. This could be like a vacation for them, just to make it relaxing but not boring for them. You don’t have to go everywhere with them but give them suggestions and see what they would want to do!

Don’t leave your guests freezing: Nothing can be worse than your heating system breaking down while having guests at your house for the holidays. This may be avoidable by getting your heater yearly maintenance. Getting a yearly tune-up can avoid surprise problems and extend the life of your heater.
