2016 is just around the corner and you may be figuring out your New Year’s Eve plans. Some people have a get together or go somewhere and celebrate with drinks and friends. Let 2016 start off great by being as safe as you can be on New Year’s Eve. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind for New Year’s Eve.

Transportation

Have a designated driver. Whatever you do, do not drink and drive. Don’t be afraid to ask for friends to stay over if going to their house for a party. If that is not an option, plan ahead! Write down local cab company number and keep it on you all night. You can use Uber or Lyft, which may be priced higher on a holiday, but try carpooling with someone else nearby to lower the cost. Spending the extra money is worth it to ensure your safety.

Safety in Numbers

Make sure you stick with friends. You don’t want to find yourself alone on New Year’s Eve. Most people drink on New Year’s Eve and can make the streets more dangerous than normal. Traveling in a group will ensure your safety as well as the people you are with.

Drinking

Have a great time, but know your limits. Drinking a glass of water between drinks is a great way to pace yourself and to make sure you do not get dehydrated or too intoxicated. Make sure to eat dinner before going out so you don’t drink on an empty stomach. Be on the lookout for the symptoms of alcohol poisoning and call 9-1-1 or Poison Control- (800) 222-1222 if you think someone is in real danger. Make sure to keep your phone charged up to when you leave to go out so you don’t have to worry about anything in case of an emergency.

Have Fun!

Last but not least, have an amazing New Year’s Eve. Whether it’s partying at a friend’s house or watching Netflix and staying in, don’t feel pressured to do anything that isn’t fun for you. New Year’s is supposed to be a fresh start, so enjoy wherever you are going to be!
